Etienne Rivière is a professor in computer science at UCLouvain since 2017, after a career in Switzerland (University of Neuchâtel) and a PhD in France (Inria Rennes). His research interests are computer systems, distributed systems, and security. He leads the « Cloud and Large-Scale Computing » team of the ICTEAM institute of UCLouvain. The team conducts projects on performance and scaling of blockchain systems, resource management for Big Data infrastructures, programming of edge/cloud infrastructures, or in the framework of CyberExcellence, work on securing modern cloud infrastructures. Prof. Rivière also collaborates with a group of international researchers and the Ethereum Foundation to improve the security of the blockchain of the same name.
